Brandon Knowlton, CPA

Partner

Brandon joined the team in 2016 and, through his hard work and exceptional accounting skills, became a Partner in 2023.

Originally from Mervin, Saskatchewan, a small town with a population of 150, he attended Turtleford Community School from Kindergarten through Grade 12. He then moved to Saskatoon to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting at the Edwards School of Business, University of Saskatchewan, graduating in 2013. After graduation, Brandon relocated to Calgary to join BDO, and later earned his CPA designation in 2017.

Now living near the mountains, Brandon enjoys spending his free time hiking, biking, and skiing in the Rockies.

Ryan J. TURNBULL, CPA

Partner

Ryan enjoys the novel and complex. When something comes through the office that needs some detailed research and investigation, Ryan is often the one to champion the topic and brief the team.

Ryan began his accounting career at BDO in 2013 in Calgary and, after a couple of stints at smaller firms, he joined Momentus as a Partner in 2023.

Ryan was born in Victoria and attended the University of Victoria, swimming on the varsity swim team, before transferring to the University of British Columbia, where he received his Bachelor of Commerce. Outside of work he spends much of his time with his wife and young daughter, enjoys staying active at the gym and the pool, and also enjoys volunteering his time, sitting on a couple of not-for-profit Boards.

Miguel Costa

Principal

Miguel firmly believes in the power of collaboration. He works hand-in-hand with his clients to understand their professional and personal aspirations and applies his financial and tax expertise to help them reach their goals. He also partners with a trusted network of advisors, including bankers, insurance brokers, lawyers, and wealth managers to ensure that his clients understand their complete financial picture.

His focus on comprehensive financial and tax compliance advice makes him an invaluable asset to his clients and to the Momentus team.

Over his 25 years in public practice, Miguel has garnered diverse industry experience. He spent the first decade of his career with some of the largest independent CA/CPA firms in Calgary. In 2006 he decided to strike out on his own and start his own practice – which he has been successfully doing ever since. When Miguel isn’t working with clients, he’s enjoying quality time with his family, including his husband Richard and their dogs, Lola and Rico. You might also catch him cheering on the Flames, traveling the globe, or flexing his foodie skills.

Richard Leibel

Office Manager & Administrator

Richard has been with Momentus since the beginning and he wears many hats from managing the office, to helping clients with their monthly and weekly bookkeeping, to payroll. He keeps the lights on (literally) and our internal process running smoothly.

Prior to Momentus, Richard was an IT professional and worked at the University of Calgary Medical Clinic and at CLINICARE Electronic Medial Records. He also was part of the IT team that managed the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life database.

When not keeping things running at Momentus, you may find him scuba diving. He is a certified diver and has dived in Iceland, the Galapagos Islands, the Caribbean, Central and South America, and has even braved the glacier fed Lake Minnewanka, in November, in Banff National Park. When not underwater, you can find him spending time with his husband, Miguel, and enjoying time with family and baking up a storm.

Mike Granados

Staff Accountant

Mike’s accounting career launched with Momentus in 2023 and is part of the bookkeeping and accounting team. He is currently doing double duty as he is also studying to obtain his BComm in Accounting. Once he has his degree in hand he will work towards his CPA designation.

Mike was born and raised in Calgary. What motivates Mike the most is working with clients and building relationships for the long term. He was able to hone his client relations skills while working in Mexico, where he spent 15 years in Playa del Carmen working on numerous multi-family resort developments.

Mike moved back to Calgary in 2017 and was the Operations Manager at a boutique gym until he decided to go back to school and pursue his CPA. When not working and studying you can find Mike and his wife enjoying the mountains, and getting reacquainted with winter sports, like skating and skiing.
